Today’s post will be an update on the progress of Modern Quill. We’re one month in business, and things are happening. I’ve had a few interviews to ghostwrite, but no takers at this time. To those that met with me, thank you very much for taking the time. It was at least meaningful to me. However, I set a goal for the month to have one signed contract for this revenue stream, and unfortunately, I didn’t accomplish it. Sometimes, life provides a path that is still fulfilling, and that IS okay.
Modern Quill has had some great opportunities its first month in official business in technical writing. It isn’t something new to me. Since the beginning of my corporate career, I’ve done some form of technical writing, from technical bulletins, instructions, eLearning courses, project plans, process maps, communication and organization change plans, audit reports, checklists, proposals, and even grants. It turns out, I’m enjoying the detailed and structured work and helping businesses document their processes or build out proposals; it must be that project manager in me.
As I write this, I imagine some of my friends gagging at the disgusting thought of having to put together a report. To that, I say, one person’s crappy job is another’s glorious day at the office. If you don’t believe me, ask a plumber or a farmer who loves his job.
A couple of highlights of this past month:
Several Research and Reports for Vehicle Regulations
Editing of a Technical Compliance Manual
Documenting and structuring a small business process so the owner can quickly train new employees and help prioritize efforts
A $1M+ grant submission for a non-profit to help workers displaced by Covid-19 in the tourism and hospitality industry focusing on immigrants and minorities
You might have noticed Modern Quill’s website has changed this week to focus more on technical writing. We’re still offering creative services to those people who need them. I still have a passion for creative writing that I intend to keep alive and well while helping other aspiring authors where I can.
Technical writing is a bit of a departure from what I intended to do. But there is something about taking an organization’s mission, telling their story, and helping them acquire the funds they need to grow their business or serve their community. It is satisfying work that I am grateful to be a part of because I’m still writing and helping others.
We could use your help!
We are looking for new opportunities to help organizations, small or medium-sized, with grants, proposals, and technical documentation. We are happy to meet with anyone and discuss your needs.
Thank you for your continued support.
